Referrer information
Who do we care for?
We accept referrals for anyone over the age of 16 living with autonomic dysfunction, persistent fatigue and/or persistent pain and common co-occurring or contributing conditions such as post-viral syndromes, autoimmune conditions, neurological conditions, connective tissue syndromes, headache and migraine, arthritis etc.

We do not routinely accept referrals for children and young people under the age of 16 because this cohort benefit from the input from paediatric providers. Exceptions may be considered for young patients facing significant access barriers.

Our service was established to fill a specific healthcare gap, as such we do not provide general physiotherapy services for people who fall outside our referral criteria.

Do patients need a diagnosis?
No, we recognize the journey to diagnosis can be a convoluted one for many people who live with 'invisible illness' as such we are happy to provide support to both the patient and their medical team throughout the diagnostic journey, as well as after.
However, all persistent autonomic, fatigue and pain presentations warrant medical assessment and management alongside allied health care. It is Autonomic Health policy that care is always be provided in partnership with a local medical team.

Do you see patients in person?
No, we only provide virtual services so any Australian can access specialist allied health rehabilitation services to compliment the in-person care being provided by the patient's medical team.

What gap fees will a patient incur if I refer them to Autonomic Health with a GP Management Plan (GPMP) or Team Care Arrangement (TCA)?
The 2024 allied health Medicare rebate for patients presenting with an eligible GPMP or TCA is $60.35. Gap fees for eligible patients are as follows:
-
Initial Assessment (60 min face to face, 30 min non-clinical) - $152
-
Review (20 min) - $34.65
-
Review (40 min) -$119.65
Those without a GPMP or TCA will be charged as per our standard fee schedule. Private health insurance rebates may apply depending on the patient's cover.
Do you do NDIS Assessments?
No, Autonomic Health is a start-up currently focused on providing accessible care to people across Australia. We do not have the capacity to contribute to lengthy NDIS assessments at present but hope to in the future.

Can you assist with upskilling our clinical team?
We appreciate that the conditions we care for are complex and some are reasonably uncommon, particularly in primary care. We are happy to contribute to case discussions and interprofessional networking, as well as more structured clinical education as time permits. Requests can be submitted to our practice email.
